Lamentations 1:3-5

New American Standard Bible

^3 (A)Judah has gone into exile out of affliction
And ^[a]harsh servitude;
She lives ^(B)among the nations,
But she has not found a resting place;
All those who ^(C)pursued her have overtaken her
In the midst of ^[b]distress.
⁴ The roads ^[c]of Zion are in mourning
Because ^(D)no one comes to an appointed feast.
All her gates are ^(E)deserted;
Her priests groan,
Her ^(F)virgins are worried,
And as for Zion herself, it is ^(G)bitter for her.
⁵ Her adversaries have become ^[d]her masters,
Her enemies are ^[e]secure;
For the Lord has ^[f](H)caused her grief
Because of the multitude of her wrongdoings;
Her little ones have gone away
As captives ^[g]led by the enemy.
